Looking for a stand up paddleboard rental? You came to the right place! Stand up paddleboarding in Morro Bay is the ultimate SUP experience! And MBSUP makes it easy to rent. Our rental operation is mobile! That means we bring everything to you! We offer high quality SUP equipment for our rentals and make sure that you have the right board for your needs and skill level. Morro Bay harbor offers about 4 miles of paddling one way from the north end to the south end. The harbor is full of wildlife that can be seen as you follow the sand spit. The weather usually allows for paddling all year long, but mornings tend to be the calmest in terms of winds. Our rental operation is reservation based, but if your outing is a spur of the moment event, we’ll do our best to accommodate you!
HOW IT WORKS
Our SUP rentals are open 7 days a week, by reservation. Simply call ahead, let us know how many paddlers are going out, and then meet us at the launch spot! We’ll have all equipment ready to go when you get there. We most often launch rental boards at the north end of the harbor, at Coleman Park beach, but we may launch elsewhere depending on wind and tide. We provide 15 minutes of basic beach instruction which is sufficient for most beginners to get started. If you are uncertain of your ability, you may want to take a Level 1 SUP lesson for your first experience.
OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT
We rent stand up paddleboards for use on flat water in the protected harbor (sorry, no rentals for SUP surfing outside of the harbor at this time). We use a variety of both all-around cruising SUP boards and touring boards. We even have some race boards for more skilled paddlers looking to go faster and farther. If you are bringing children, we have smaller boards and paddles to suit them. We’ll make sure that you get the board that suits your needs so that you have the best experience on the water. We use high quality Quickblade adjustable paddles that are much lighter than the typical rental paddle. In addition to an inherently buoyant flotation vest or a waist belt personal flotation device (PFD), each paddler also gets a leg leash that must be worn while on the water. This prevents the board from getting blown away from you if you fall.
OUR PADDLING ENVIRONMENT
Morro Bay harbor is about four miles long, stretching from the north end where the iconic Morro Rock stands, to the south end at Los Osos. The harbor provides protected flat water paddling. Paddlers don’t encounter exposed waters until just past Target Rock, just on the southeast side of Morro Rock. It is a narrow harbor that is frequently dredged to clear the navigable channel for the many fishing, charter, tour, and leisure boats that visit or call this home port. For this reason, paddlers of all craft types should remain outside of the navigable channel which is marked by the numbered red buoys. The length of the harbor is protected from the ocean by a sand spit that extends all the way to Montana de Oro State Park to the south. The sandspit is a unique and biologically important habitat comprised of a barrier of sand dunes in varying degrees of succession. You will find several important native plant communities. During certain times of the year, much of the sandspit is closed to human traffic due to nesting of a small shorebird called the Snowy Plover.
Please note: Our store location is 601 Embarcadero, but we launch our rental equipment at other locations in the harbor. We do not launch our rentals from our shop!
